SIZING

So how do we Size your Air-Conditioner?

Cooling capacity is a measure in British Thermal units(BTU), there are many factors that influence the Btu’s need to cool/heat a given area, Meintein will dispatch a qualified Technician/Salesperson to assist you with choosing the air conditioner suitable for your environment. As a rough guideline the following table can be utilized to work out the BTUs required for the sizes mentioned below, as stated this is not cast in stone and should only be used as a guideline.

For a room approximately Aircon size required
15 to 18 m2 9 000 btu
20 to 25 m2 12 000 btu
30 to 35 m2 18 000 btu
40 to 45 m2 24 000 btu
55 to 65 m2 30 000 btu

Some of the factors that can influence the BTU level are as follows:

1) The floor area of the room

The amount of cooling required depends on the area of the room.
To calculate the area in square metres, Area of Room= Length(Metres) x Width( Metres) x 337.

2) The size and position of windows, and whether they have blinds or shades.

We take the window and their size into consideration:
South Window BTU = South Facing window Length (m) x Width (m) x 870.
North Window BTU = North Facing windows Length (m) x Width (m) x 165.
If there are no blinds on the windows multiply the result(s) by 1.5.
Obviously, if you are in the Southern Hemisphere you would swap the conversion factors as the heat on north-facing windows is then greatest.
Add together all the BTUs for the windows
Windows BTU = South Window(s) BTU + North Window(s) BTU.

3) The number of room occupants (if any)

For every person in the room, we add +-600 Btu depending on their activity.

4) The heat generated by lighting

Lighting in a room can have a considerable influence on the heat generated, the formula used is the total wattage of the lighting and multiply by 4.25.

We will therefore draw up a tailor made quotation for taking into consideration  all of the above factors.
